The chief executive of GP collective ProCare says growing numbers of Maori and Pasifika patients are accessing healthcare through remote consultations.

Bindi Norwell says ProCare is now up to 1,000 consultations thanks to its UnifyHealth telehealth pilot, which is part of the Department of Health’s digital activation programme.

She says the confinement conditions helped people learn about telehealth and ProCare was able to offer the consultations at a subsidized rate.

“They are charged the same as their local GP and that’s what UnifyHealth has really done. It provides that back-end technology so people can be sure they’re always being charged the same amount, because what we don’t want is cost being a barrier,” Ms Norwell says.
