Maori Development Minister and rugby league fan Willie Jackson says Manley Sea Eagles players who dived into tomorrow’s game against the Roosters rather than wear special Pride tape are getting bad advice from their pastors.

The club apologized for releasing the rainbow-themed shirt without consulting the players, seven of whom said they would not wear it as it contradicted their cultural and religious beliefs.

Mr Jackson says the players have not been given good advice on human rights and their responsibilities as professionals.

“I hope someone like Sonny Bill (Williams) would give good advice. I mean he’s a Muslim but I think he has the right principles and I think someone like him and Khoder Nasser would give the right advice to these young guys because it’s really kind of shocking and disappointing. They should be sitting down and discussing rights because it’s a rights argument,” he says.
