Rotorua sends Lady Kuia Morrison with some of the songs she loved.

The widow of Sir Howard Morrison died on Saturday aged 84.

She has lived with dementia for three years.

Her brother-in-law and Rotorua identity Trevor Maxwell said she was welcomed back to the Ohinemutu marae yesterday by Te Arawa and Ngāti Whakaue.

“After the karakia outfit, we sat there and we just approved some songs that she loved to join us, not standing in the front row or anything and looking good in her own way, with Howie and Use, so we sang a few songs she likes and we all liked it. Sad to see her go this way, no more pain now too,” Mr Maxwell says.

Until her illness, Lady Kuia was a familiar sight on the streets of Rotorua, showing off the style of walking that took her all the way to the New York City Marathon.
