Talented students at Ayrshire College have launched their own radio station – a project in the making for almost ten years.

Students and teachers from the Essential Skills Department have launched the ‘Essential Radio’ station and will broadcast from the Kilwinning campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The successful launch took place on Wednesday June 1, with the first-ever live broadcast featuring students from Ayrshire College, their Vice-Principal Anne Campbell and Head of Essential Skills Greg Cassidy.

Brian Woolfson, Lecturer in Life Skills at Ayrshire College, said: ‘This has been a project for eight years and I was proud to see it finally come to fruition with our big launch show featuring staff and students. .

“The response from all three campuses was phenomenal and I was so proud of everyone involved that day. But that was just the beginning. Essential Radio will be the sound of Ayrshire College – so stay tuned to our essential news, music, sport, showbiz, business, course information as well as the voices of students and staff, and some programs presented to entertain you during the summer!

The mainly music station – which has been funded by the Ayrshire College Foundation – will also offer news, podcasts and live broadcasts and will be available on the Ayrshire College website and ‘my Ayrshire College’ app.
